Welcome to Mrs. Howard's Science and Reading Class!

Welcome to 6th Grade Science and Reading! I would like to share with you some information as we begin the 2009-2010 school year. As a classroom we will be spending the first days of school helping students become familiar with each other and also become comfortable with various classroom routines and safety in the classroom.

In science this year our focus is to study and become masters in physical science. We will be working out of Science Notebooks that each student will receive at the beginning of the year. Students will also work in a "Science Journal" that will be used to become familiar with physical, life, and earth science.

Students will be given a Science Safety Contract at the beginning of the year that they are to sign as well as have you sign and return. Your child will not be allowed to participate in labs unless I have this contract back to me signed by both you and your child.

One way to become familiar with the physical science textbook is to visit the online website to help with studying, reviewing and taking pre-quizzes and pre-tests. Visit www.gpscience.com. The access code to get the online version of the textbook is: C71A05DFC1.

I will also be teaching one reading class this year and am excited to get our reading skills back into shape! We will work on skills such as comprehension, summarizing, inferrencing, sequencing, vocabulary and much more.
